Cryotherapy / Mole Removal

Cryotherapy, or “cryosurgery,” is a simple, non-invasive procedure in which liquid nitrogen is used to freeze and destroy growths on the surface of the skin. This is an effective treatment for precancerous skin lesions (actinic keratoses), as well as other skin conditions such as warts, skin tags and moles.

Applying liquid nitrogen to skin lesions allows dermatologists to target the damaged skin cells and destroy them at the cellular level. After freezing, the affected area may blister and scab over, and should heal within three to six weeks.

Our dermatology team uses cryosurgery to treat a wide range of conditions. It offers a number of advantages: Cryotherapy is a simple, affordable outpatient procedure, the discomfort level is minimal, and there is a low risk of infection.

FreezPen cryotherapy is a non-invasive treatment that involves minimal discomfort and does not require anesthesia or stitches. FreezPen treatment has no downtime and it significantly reduces the risk of scars and other complications. Treatment is quick and does not require special post-op care.

Our method treats all types of common non-malignant skin lesions: warts, dark spots, plantar warts liver/age spots, skin tags, moles, keratosis, angiomas, fibromas, milia, molluscum contagiosum and more.

Please note that any types of malignant or suspicious growths need to be treated by a certified dermatologis

CRYOTHERAPY

  1. The applicator’s unique tip targets the lesion using a high-pressure jet of extremely cold nitrous oxide gas.

  1. Within seconds, the temperature of the lesion drops to -89°C, causing the water inside of the cells to freeze, expand and rupture the membranes of cells.

  1. As a result, the cells that form the lesion are destroyed and eliminated by the body over time, allowing new, healthy skin to grow in the same location.

Erase sun spots, age spots, skin tags, warts and other benign lesions.

Manufactured in Belgium, licensed by Health Canada, FreezPen procedures are safe, fast and comfortable with no scars or downtime. One of the best mole, skin tags and warts removal therapy.

What is Cryotherapy? It’s the gold standard for removal of skin lesions in dermatology and aesthetic practices. It’s the controlled destruction of unwanted tissue through the application of extreme cold.

FreezPen utilizes Nitrous Oxide (N2O), a safer alternative to Liquid Nitrogen (N2), which is commonly used in other forms of cryotherapy. N2O rapidly freezes and destroys targeted cells, but it’s not so cold as to cause unwanted damage to the surrounding healthy tissue. Plus, FreezPen’s applicator, designed for precision, allows for a gas outflow that targets only the lesion and provides maximum accuracy during the treatment.

This depends on how many lesions are being treated. 1-2 lesions can take 5-10 minutes. There is no limit to how many lesions can be treated in a single session!

Most lesions require one treatment, however, large lesions may require 1-2 follow-up treatments. Dr. Motakis and his team will discuss this during your consultation to develop a treatment plan.

The lesion is expected to fall off 2-4 weeks after the treatment. Some lesions are more persistent and may take longer to disappear.

Immediately after treatment, the lesions might become red, swollen and sensitive to touch. Some patients may develop temporary blisters (clear, red or purple) in the lesion area due to the accumulation of cellular fluids.
